Goodrich Hornets 2000–2001 State Champions to Be Honored at Alamodome
San Antonio, TX — On Thursday, March 12, 2006, legendary Coach Lester King and his 2000–2001 Goodrich High School boys basketball team will be recognized for their historic UIL State Championship victory during the state tournament in San Antonio.
The ceremony will take place at the Alamodome, most likely during the Class A State Championship Game, as the UIL pays tribute to one of the most memorable teams in Texas high school basketball history.
The Goodrich Hornets captured the 2001 Class A State Title with a 62–51 win over the Nazareth Swifts, capping off a remarkable 35–3 season. Under Coach King’s leadership, the Hornets showcased discipline, teamwork, and resilience that still stand as a source of pride for the Goodrich community.
The celebration will reunite players, coaches, and fans to honor a team whose championship legacy continues to inspire young athletes across Texas. Look for the Hall Of Fame Coach to eventually make his way back to someone’s sidelines to make another push at a title before he officially hangs it up.
